(Psa. 57:1)
1. GOD’S MERCY IS NEEDED IN TIME OF TROUBLE.
2. CONFIDENT REFUGE IN GOD.
(1) “My soul trusteth”—Same Heb. Word for refuge.
(2) We flee to him for refuge—Heb. 6:18.
(3) Deut. 33:27—“The eternal God is thy…”
(4) Prov. 14:26-- In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
3. “THE SHADOW OF THY WINGS IS A PLACE OF REFUGE.
(1) Psa. 17:8, 9—“Hide me under the shadow of thy iwngs.”
(2) Psa. 36:7--How excellent is thy lovingkindness, O God! therefore the children of men put their trust under the shadow of thy wings.
(3) Psa. 63:7--Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice.
4. THE DANGER IS TEMPORARY. “UNTIL THE CALAMATIES BE OVERPAST.”
(1) David’s calamity passed—He became king.
(2) Current crises in the world—Economies are falling—But God is not material but spirit—Gold or God?
a. Lk. 12:16—Money fails.
b. Psa. 49:6-12—Money not the answer to everything—Can’t save from death or judgment.
(3) Sickness passes.
(4) Persecution passes—Matt. 10:28—Body suffers .
(5) Suffering passes—Rom. 8:16-18.
(6) Death passes!
a. Into eternity.
b. 1 Cor. 15:54-57—Death swallowed up in victory—Fulfills O.T. promise of Isa 25:8.
c. 2 Cor. 5:4—Mortality swallowed up by life.
CONC.
1. Mercy sustains.
2. Faith sees beyond the temporary state of man.
