THE OTHER SHIP

(Lk. 5:7)

 

INTRO.

  1. The great catch of fish.
  2. When in the deep the other ship is important!

 

  1. NEVER HESITATE TO SIGNAL “THE OTHER SHIP” FOR HELP
    1. James 5:14-16.
    2. Prov. 12:15--The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
    3. Pride won’t send a signal—But will fail—Prov. 16:18.
    4. If can’t depend on brethren, who can you depend on?

 

  1. DON’T FAIL TO COME TO HELP IF YOU ARE “THE OTHER SHIP.”
    1. Be alert to the needs of others—Nearby ship when Titanic signaled but not respond.
    2. “The other ship” might refuse to help.
      1. “Not my problem.”
      2. “They shouldn’t have gotten into that mess.”
      3. “I’ll pray for God to bless them.”—James 2:14-16; James 1:27.
  2. “The other ship” ought not to refuse any opportunity—Gal. 6:10.

 

  1. “THE OTHER SHIP” OFTEN MAKES THE DIFFERENCE.
    1. The Carpathia made the difference for 700 people.
      1. Didn’t save all but saved some—1 Cor. 9:22b.
  2. “The other ship” can be the hope for salvation.
    1. Gal. 6:1, 2—Restore—Bear another’s burden.
    2. Rom. 15:1, 2.
  3. “The other ship” provides means of spreading out the load.
    1. Both ships full—v. 7.
    2. Ex. 18:14-24—Moses needed help.
    3. Acts 14:23—“Elders” (plural) spread the burden.
    4. Reason to work together as a group, pulling together—Many ideas come together for one purpose.

 

  1. YOU MAY NOT BE IN THE SHIP WHERE FISHING BEGAN BUT MIGHT BE “THE OTHER SHIP” THAT CAN HELP.

  1. Great lessons—None argued about who had best ship, most capable crew, best nets, etc!—They just worked together.
